Signs of True Labour

by on May 7, 2012

A common concern of women who gets pregnant for the first time is how they will know if they are already in labour. It’s hard to guess whether you are in a true labour or false labour especially if you are having it for the first time. If you wanna know more about false labour you may check out my previous blog post about it. For first time moms out there, you’ll know that you are in a true labour if you have encountered the following:

The “show”

It’s when you lose your mucus plug which prevents infection from entering the uterus. As the cervix softens the mucus plug is dislodge and comes out in a form of discharge usually in thick clear or yellowish mucus. Normally you will see few bloods that come with the discharge. Losing the mucus plug is a sign that you’ll soon to labour and you should plan to leave for the hospital.

Strong Contraction

Having a strong contraction and becoming more intense with a short interval between contractions. And as it progress the interval gets shorter. And even if you walk around, it does not weaken the intensity of contraction. Another thing is when the contractions starts at the highest part of your abdomen and moves down through the uterus and lower back.

Water Bag Breaks

Once labour has started the amniotic membranes or better known as water bag will rapture naturally. It is a big gush of water that comes out from you or to others if may come in a form of trickle. This may happen at an early stage of the labour. If this happen, you have to immediately leave for hospital, to prevent infection that might affect your baby.

In a few weeks, I am expecting our second baby so I have to watch out for these signs.
